This is the story of an al-Qaida assassination plot that failed ”” or did it?
The two main characters are a Saudi prince and an al-Qaida suicide bomber. The prince survived their meeting in August. The bomber did not. And yet, the episode has sent a chill through Western security circles.
The assailant had a bomb hidden inside his body in an elaborate effort to kill the Saudi prince. And Western intelligence officials are concerned that the technique will be tried again.
Removing shoes and clothing when boarding a plane is bad enough…
My grandparents remembered seeing FDR arrive in town to inspect some flood controls being built on the Susquehanna River back in 1935. He rode into town in the back of an open touring car with his famous long cigarette holder jutting out of his mouth and crowds lined the road. There was a Secret Service man on each side of the car. But beyond that it was extremely informal and people sometimes crowded so close to his car that it had to stop while police cleared the road.
Now I can see the Secret Service screening people with X-Ray machines in the near future. What a sad and depressing world we live in.
2, agreed.
I don’t envy Prince Mohammed’s cleaning staff.
I have occasionally feared that we are approaching a situation where we will all have to strip off completely to get through airport security. Now it seems we may have to turn ourselves inside out in the bargain. At some point, it’s simply not worth the trouble.
Not to mention the sheer obscenity of people who would volunteer to be blown apart so as to murder others, and those who would encourage them and arrange for the bomb to be inserted within them so that the deed could be done. I cannot understand Islam. Cartoons of Mohammed: riots in the streets, mass protests. Turn your fellow-believers into living, ticking bombs that will eviscerate them: yawn. Talk about double standards.
