A new strategic plan for the Anglican Church of Canada’s next nine years is now being readied for delegates of General Synod 2010 to consider when they meet in Halifax in June. Council of General Synod (CoGS) reviewed the Vision 2019 report when it met in Mississauga from March 11 to 14 and voted to recommend it for adoption by General Synod 2010.
Under the banner vision statement, “A people seeking to know, love and follow Jesus in serving God’s mission,” the report identified priorities. They include:
Ӣ developing leadership education for mission and ministry
Ӣ supporting the Council of the North
Ӣ journeying with indigenous peoples
Ӣ working for peace and justice
Ӣ engaging with young people
Ӣ enlivening worship, and
Ӣ becoming leaders in the Anglican Communion and in ecumenical actions.

I was struck by this: “becoming leaders in the Anglican Communion and in ecumenical actions.”
Katherine Grieb told the gathering that the TEClub and presumably the Anglican Church of Canada “can live with the present draft of the Covenant.” The above objective also seems to say that the Canadians will be signing on to the Covenant and they are assuming that they will be part of the first tier of Rowan’s “two tier” Communion which it seems will have all in the first tier and none in the second.
I must have missed the acting on the Great Commission and “saving souls” part.
Which will turn out the lights first? … the only race between ACoC and EcUSA.
#2, it would seem that “making disciples of all men” just didn’t get through the committee and earn a bullet point. To be fair, it is mentioned in the article cited that the program is meant to fit within the AC’s Five Marks of Mission which would be a good thing if it were given priority and not thrown into the blender with many good thoughts.
I personally like the idea of “journeying with indigenous peoples.” But, maybe considering some of the Anglican Church’s history in Canada they don’t want the ACofC to show up as tourists. A better thought may be to offer to cut bait, change oil, and actually do something of value for First Nations peoples. The last bullet point says a lot…….but they’ve got an EXTREMELY LONG WAY TO GO……AN IMPOSSIBLE JOURNEY.
