At least KJS has finally gotten some decent vestments for a change. But what a mockery of of a consecration!

“Representatives from the Tongva, Chumash, Tataviam and Acjachemem Native American tribes, upon whose lands the Los Angeles diocese is located, welcomed 3,000 clergy and laity, family and friends, and civic, ecumenical and other guests, blessing the gathering, building and the land with smoldering sage incense and songs for the “two beautiful shepherds” at the start of the ceremony.”
Leaving aside the sage incense, does TEC theology now embrace the idea that land is permanently ‘in the possession’ of native american people, that is, land is indissoluably associated with the tribes so making the claim, such that they give a kind of permission to hold the consecration service? This is also where Gledhill’s comments are so naive. When one goes down this particular trail, it joins up with almost ever other trail, including the oddities reported in LA.

I recall that the Long Beach Arena holds several thousand–12 or 13–people. Three thousand doesn’t sound like it was very crowded.
I wonder, too, if the Episcopal Church is OK with worshiping on land “in the possession” of others–they are so quick to relieve dissenting churches of their property saying it belongs to the Episcopal Church!
