UPDATE:
Just had an e-mail from Chip Webb of the IRD. He too is in N’awlins and is commenting at his blog Anglican Action: http://anglicanaction.blogspot.com/
With the unintended juxtaposition of links to EpiScope and the IRD, the elf must confess a strong temptation to break out into a chorus of “Hail hail the gang’s all here…!” 😉
Kevin’s plan alights at 2pm today.
OOOps that’s plane not plan.
I do hope he arrives with a plan.
Br_er Rabbit — Are you the Chauffeur? (actually that can be a good gig at times).
Well, no. He’s renting a car. But he does plan to call me from the airport.
There is also stuff here
http://walkingwithintegrity.blogspot.com/
Yes, as Kendall properly reminds me, there are important links from the reappraising side of the aisle. I’ll try to round those up ASAP.
The Kallson-Plane has landed. Anglican TV is onscene in Louisiana.
I am team parent for the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Cross Country team for this weekend’s foray to the William and Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. Which is a long way of saying that I am not in New Orleans.
Thanks Jim. Hope the meet goes well. I’ll update the post above, but leave the link to Episcopal Cafe, of course.
Elves, this was hard to find this morning (am I awake yet?). Maybe you could find your Elmer’s glue and stick it to the top?
No Friday news yet. Our correspondents must have had a late night.
By request, making this sticky.
Found the Elmer’s, huh? 😆
12:35 The conference has started. Archbishop Rowan and Bishops Schori (speaking now), Jenkins, Gray, and Bishop Suffragan Catherine
Roskam of New York.
!2:40 +++Rowan speaking. He expects to hear from HOB folks later this week, and will be in consultation over the next two weeks with other bishop.
Jenkins: “We’re not settling. We’re not settling any more.” He compared to the ‘whites only’ seats on the bus.
+Roskam: “My fellow bishops showed the willingness to hang together.”
“We have first and foremost to respect our baptismal vow.”
There is a line of 6 journalists waiting to speak at the microphone.
Rowan: “We have a need for one another.” “The churches in the world have a need for the older churches.”
Offerings at service last night was $131,000
+Shori “We have already begun to give our responsed to [DES] and will continue to do so over the next few days.”
?Postpone Lambeth? (Virtue)
+Rowan: “I’m not persuaded [to do so]. I don’t think we know what an adequate cooling off period is.?
+Rowan: “Meeting at Lambeth is one of the things we have to do on the way to the cross.”
Integrity: Why would a gay or lesbian person want to be a Christian?
+Rowan: unacceptability of prejudice against them, “That they have a place among the body as baptised persons is not in doubt here.”
Kevin of Anglican TV:
“is healing available to homosexual persons…”
+RDW “That assumes that homosexuality is a disease. … I do not assume that homosexuality is a disease.”
re: DES (Rowan)
Some primates more robust some less. It’s been characterized as a set of demands. “I don’t think they were a set of demands.” (he went on the characterize the 3 requests from DES as ‘proposals’.
Reuters: Isn’t this in a large part about money?
Rowan: No. If all the money factors go away, the problem would still be there.
Baby Blue: “we’re free to go, just leave the buildings behind.”
Rowan: “Start by looking for arrangements through what’s there [inside].” “Be rather slow in looking for solutions elsewhere.”
ENS: border crossing ministry – “Does this trouble you?
+RDW “It does.” “I would really, really look for local solutions.”
He will continue to refuse to recognize bishops consecrated for these reasons.
Closing remarks Schori (standard fare), Gray (thanks for nearly $1M in one collection), Rokham (plug memorial CD for didnt catch the name)
Wow … Robust servers!!!!!
I remember the frustrations during GC06 & Dar es Salaam (as well as other times). Folks may consider donating a dollar or two to help defray Greg’s cost for this service (servers host both SF & T19).
This is probably not the right place for this… but here it is anyway. I was present at the Diocese on NC info night Tuesday, this week… First time in many such gatherings that I actually felt ‘uncomfortable…’ sort of of “if you are not with us, you are against us…” “don’t be here if you want to question what we are doubg…” Interesting to note that at the end of the evening when we had to hear all about the other provinces minding their business and that they ought to stay at home in the ‘Southern Cone’, our bishop announced that following the HOB in NO, LA, he and a group of Lay and Clergy folks were going to South Africa (I think) to assist in starting an “anglican” church… and that those there were anxiously anticipation the event… jmichael
Rode up the elevator at the convention with Philip Aspinal, Primate of Australia.
you “rode up the elevator” with the primate from NZ…? what did you learn?
OOps… Austrailia…
You know that any report from NC will reflect exactly what the Bishop wants… As the newspaper article claimed, incorrectly… ” all those who are left in this diocese agreed with the current dioscean position…”
Nothing, really Aardbark, except that the activities of the TEC HOB are momentous enough to attract foreign primates.
Br_er, thanks very much for your live blogging, I had tech troubles and couldn’t see the press conference. So appreciated your work.
Make sure to check out Cherie Wetzel’s report which we’ve just posted for a really interesting account of ++Aspinall’s words to the HoB. I was pleasantly shocked!
I’m glad you appreciated it, elves. It just sort of happened: All my duties had been completed and I was sitting there blogging when a press conference happened around me. I just started catching what I could and posting it.
Finally, where does all this leave us?
The ABC has neither the conviction nor the guts to go one way or the other. It would be much better for the Communion if the he took a clear stand.
Is this a game of yo-yo or what?
Spiro, the other thing that struck me was the ABC saying that we should look to local solutions. Yet the only solution was to leave both TEC and the AC. Foriegn bishops were the only solution for thow who wanted to remain in the AC.
It appears to me that the ABC is looking for a lifeboat that isn’t there, a solution that does not exist and he is unwilling to make any decision at all. But that itself is a decision and that decision will be made without him and I think it will turn a small split in the AC into a very large one.
“Acquire a peaceful spirit, and around you
thousands will be saved.” (St. Seraphim of Sarov)
Must we really be directed towards Standfirm? Greg’s latest ranting and raving about David Virtue is really very embarassing to the orthodox camp. Much akin to TEC in thinking about its own ego and rights at the expense of embarassing the orthodox community with this latest airing of dirty laundry. I say take it off this links list! At least until the whining and freaking out is ended and egos are brought down to earth. I don’t know which is more shameful: what’s goin on at TEC or Standfirm. Let’s behave as orthodoxs with a dose of greater civility – despite alleged offenses! We’re in the midst of a Communion crisis without having to deal with petty squabbles amongst ego-centric bloggers.
In the future, we’d like to ask that concerns such as Hyacinth’s get sent to us privately:
ksharmon[at]mindspring[dot]com or
T19elves@yahoo.com
We can appreciate that some may not support what SF posts, just as some at SF do not support the way we run T19. We are separate blogs. But, Stand Firm is far and away the best in the business when it comes to webhosting support and ability to keep the servers running when faced with massive blog traffic.
Combined, the 2 blogs have received 11.5 MILLION page hits.
There have been about 250,000 page hits since the HoB meetings began.
We are immensely grateful for their webhosting support and for their commitment to comprehensive coverage of Anglican news, their excellence in liveblogging, their innovative use of technology, etc.
—
P.S. For the record, the thread Hyacinth was concerned about is no longer posted at Stand Firm, the situation now having been resolved with attribution properly made to Stand Firm’s post. It was not about egos, but about proper attribution of others’ work and “fair use” policies.
