(Reuters) Health reform to worsen doctor shortage: group

The U.S. healthcare reform law will worsen a shortage of physicians as millions of newly insured patients seek care, the Association of American Medical Colleges said on Thursday.

The group’s Center for Workforce Studies released new estimates that showed shortages would be 50 percent worse in 2015 than forecast.

“While previous projections showed a baseline shortage of 39,600 doctors in 2015, current estimates bring that number closer to 63,000, with a worsening of shortages through 2025,” the group said in a statement.

Hurray for Obamacare! My insurance is going up by 20% this year (nearly double last years increase), the pool of doctors available will be 50% too small, and the maximum amount in a Flex account got reduced which ends up being a back door 3.8% tax increase on my family’s medical spending! For the record, I make far less than $200,000 a year…so raising taxes on my medical spending by lowering the Flex Account ceiling is another broken campaign promise by this adminstration. He most certainly is raising taxes on us!

Gee, thanks to everyone that voted for Obama and the Democrats running the House and Senate. I hope this law will do as much or more for you and yours as it has for me and mine. You really did unto others, didn’t you!

Thanks a lot, Barak, Nancy and Harry. The sooner you and the rest of your socialist cronies are sent packing, the better.

I am strongly advising medical students against going into primary care. Why take on the debt of medical school and defer income for years when after you are done, they will pay nurse practitioners and PA’s significantly less.

Well, a little capitalism would help. Charter more schools; let more people in to medical school. Increase the number of NPs and PAs. If there’s demand, there will be supply. I know several hardworking, smart kids who didn’t get into medical school.

And if the country has an interest in more doctors, then perhaps we should incentivize people going into general care through forgiving their debt.
