The new cross-Communion alliance set up to connect and strengthen the development, relief and advocacy activities of the Anglican Communion is seeking a Director.
Once appointed, the Director will oversee the work of the Anglican Alliance which is made up of churches and agencies collaborating and sharing knowledge and skills to add value to the range of development and relief activities already undertaken by Anglicans around the world.
“The Director will have a vital role providing strategic direction to the new global alliance of Anglican churches and agencies, building their collective capacity to transform poverty and injustice,” explained the Communion’s Director for Mission, Revd John Kafwanka.

What does the Anglican Alliance actually DO?

The point is that we can all hang around together, you know like recognising the presence of Christ in one another, and not saying to the other “we have no need of you”, and having, like, conversation? and Indaba, and more conversation and like continuing Indaba. And well you know, really important things, and well, STUFF!
And we can spend £50,000 paying someone to help us do it, like we could with the Mormons or for that matter the Moonies, without ever having to think about, as a church, what we have in common, in belief, or indeed in Christ.
I understood there was not enough money in the Anglican Communion Office budget for the Primates to meet more frequently despite their request to do so. This new post needs approximately $82,000 plus pension costs plus support costs annually to fund. I feel confident that new sources of funding have been identified to pay the significant costs of this newly created job. Nevertheless, it’s unclear to me on what financial basis some priorities are deemed unfundable whilst others are considered “vital”.
I note too that the support of the ABC and the wishes of the bishops gathered at Lambeth is mentioned in explaining the creation of this post. This despite the assertion that the most recent Lambeth Conference was never asked to take any decisions. It’s not clear to me why the bishops gathered at one Instrument of Unity are seen as having some kind of explanatory authority (however haphazard and occasional) whilst the request of bishops gathered at another Instrument of Unity is apparently seen as no more than a suggestion.

And what do you suppose is the chance that someone from the Global South will get the job and thus begin to counterbalance the overwhelmingly liberal and Anglo make up of the ACO??
Probably about as high as the chance it will snow today in Richmond.
