From the Morning Bible Readings

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

–Psalm 46:1-3; somehow oh-so-appropriate at the end of the year–KSH

    Just wanted to say thanks, Kendall, for the excerpts from the Morning Scripture readings and also for the Prayer to Start the Day. Part of my morning quiet time includes reading the lectionary for the day and I always enjoy seeing what you pull out. Sometimes I can guess! Also, it’s been my habit that when you post a prayer for the day that particularly speaks to me, I print it, cut it out and place it in my Bible as a little book mark. It’s amazing how the Lord uses those prayers as I intercess for others. God’s wonderful economy! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! Happy New Year to you and your family and all the elves at Titusonenine!!!

    Abide with us, Prince of Peace

    vv. 10, 11 “It is he who makes war to cease in all the world;
    he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear,
    and burns the shields with fire.
    Be still then, and know that I am God…”

    And these, from the prophet Isaiah (not readings appointed for today):

    “He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)

    “They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9)

    “Violence shall no more be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.” (Isaiah 60:18)
