(Well, doing the math, 6500 x 200 = only 1,300,000 so I doubt “official” numbers will be this low; but since this is closer to reality, I’ll let this guess stand.)

I read the statistics before the quiz came out, so my “guess” would not be fair. But a note to those guessing- “median” does not mean average, but the attendance or membership of the parish that would represent the “midpoint” of the total number of parishes. So if you arranged 101 parishes by attendance, the median would be the number of people attending parish #51. This is not the same as average- where you merely divide the total attendance by the total number of parishes.
We need to do this every month since the figures will continue to change.

Here is one that you seldom, if EVER, read about. Marriages in TEC (in USA) declined from 18,798 in 2002 to 11,816 in 2009. That is a decline of 38.0 percent. Compare that to the 13.5 percent decline in Members or the 19.3 percent decline in ASA And the band played on. Statmann

It’s been awhile, but I believe it is still true that more Episcopalians attend larger churches, even though up to 75% of our churches are less than 120 ASA. That really skews our perception of TECUSA, using median figures.

Median attendance: 90
Median membership: 180
Average attendance: 70 (Oops… you didn’t ask that.)
