Baghdad’s Anglican Church tries to protect the Last Jews Present There–Seven of them

The seven remaining Jews in Baghdad have been named by WikiLeaks, leaving them in danger of persecution, according to the city’s Anglican vicar.

Their lives are now in immediate danger, according to Canon Andrew White, and they’ve been advised to hide their religion.

Canon White said Baghdad’s Anglican Church is trying to protect them, as they fear extremists might try to kill them if they’re identified.

Elves- please double check that headline.

  2. New Reformation Advocate says:

    Elves,

Please correct the headline soon. I think Kendall meant that the Anglican church is trying to PROTECT those handful of Jews, not protest them. Anyway, good for them.

The tomb of Daniel is disputed. Prayers at links.

One should expect TEC to protest vehemently this catastrophic depopulation, given their long standing concern for population movements all over the Middle East. Oh hang on…no….I’ve got it wrong…they’re utterly uninterested in the fate of Jewish populations of majority Muslim states.

Given Wikileaks stated mission, I’d say the people behind it have completely lost sight of any useful purpose it may have served. Publishing these names serves no purpose other than putting specific, innocent lives in grave danger, and Wikileaks should be shut down as an accessory to criminal behavior if anything happens to any of these people.

Prayers going up for Baghdad’s Jews, and for the Anglicans seeking to protect them. May God bless their efforts.

What I heard quoted somewhere was that Egyptians Islamist are saying they got rid of the Saturday people, and now they’re going after the Sunday people.

I see the full BBC Radio documentary referred to can be listened to for a week here.

Wikileaks is a totally unprincipled, irresponsible enterprise that should be hounded out of existance as a menace to society.

  9. Pageantmaster Ù† says:

    It’s a harrowing story.

  10. drjoan says:

We should be praying for the Rev. White: He is in a very precarious position himself and if he now protects the Jews (as I believe he will) his own life will be in further danger.

To all who continue to await a Muslim “reformation,” they had it about two generations ago. It failed. For the last generation we have seen the Muslim counter-reformation, and it continues to deepen in its brutality.

Doubt me? Compare photos of women at the University of Cairo in 1960 with similar ones in 2010. Compare the numbers of Syrian Catholics in Iraq and elsewhere in 1960 with numbers from 2010. Compare the number of calls for full Sharia law in 1960 to that in 2010. Compare the numbers of attacks against Christians in Nigeria, or Sudan, or Ethiopia, or Pakistan, or the Philippines or anywhere else in 1960 with the situation in 2010.

There will be no Muslim “reformation” in our lifetimes, and to base either politics or philosophy upon such an expectation is (most generously) profoundly naive.
