Christians are by far the largest religious group on the planet, and the religion has gone truly global over the past century, according to a new report out Monday, which finds some of the world’s biggest Christian communities in surprising places.
Europe was the clear center of world Christianity one hundred years ago, but today the Americas are home to more than a third of all Christians. In fact, the United States has the world’s largest Christian population, of more than 247 million, followed by Brazil and Mexico.
I’m more concerned about quality than quantity.
Christ said “Go ye therefore unto all nations, teaching them and baptizing them in the name of the Father,” but I don’t find a reference having to do with the quality of the teaching.
I wondered if this would happen soon. There have been many reports about Christianity growing at a great rate.
I note what the article says about USA, but there is also a veritable explosion of Christian discipling in Africa, Asia and South America also.
Ah well, the evil one will seek to subborn or corrupt the message wherever he can, but let us at least give thanks for this.
3. I wouldn’t get too worked up about South America. The continent as it has developed seems to have either fallen away from the Catholic Church in one of two ways, outright secularism or simply changing to some form of Evangelicalism. If there is a net gain there, it’s probably due to population growth rather than actually converting heathens (unless some enterprising missionaries have been going up the Amazon).
