Wait…this is the Onion, right?
Now if they’d cancel General Convention…
Church insiders care more about General Convention than most people in the pew do. It is likely that GC will endorse gay marriage and provide some form of service for it, adopt a budget smaller than the last 3 years, and talk about restructuring but not take any radical action. Lots of people will have an opportunity to see old friends and a lot of money will be spent.
And for most of them that’s why they’re elected to GC in the first place. I remember when in my former Diocese of El Camino Real, the same people were elected to GC every time……so for a total of twenty years or more, so unless you knew somebody in the “in crowd,” your chances of going to GC were just about zero.
The people who have presided over the dissolution of orthodox Anglicanism in most of TEC will get exactly what they wanted…but did not fully understand. They have created a Babylonian captivity, out of which (I pray) God will bring a faithful remnant for a new season.
