Bit of a tight squeeze – no wonder it’s looking rather green.
This story (I read the text, my computer’s too old to see the video) and another I saw recently on the “alien” colonization of Antarctica should be seen in the context of geologic time. Lots of people need to realize that there has never been an equilibrium with respect to living species…and never will be. We can make a choice to keep a species going, but there will always be some trade-off (read downside). And, with the average lifespan of a species being ~10My nobody will be around forever. I figure that we’ve been around (I’m a lumper, not a splitter) for about ~5My. Oh, and BTW, the “alien” spp. in Antarctica are just from another place on the planet. I don’t think they’re alien at all!
