It looks like the typical rise in plate pledge seen as ASA and membership slowly decline in a moderately large parish over the past decade.

I always like to browse a parish’s library, and they have their catalog on-line which is quite a nice piece of work. Unfortunately for them, they have copies of the following:

“Honest prayer” Author, John Shelby Spong.
“Liberating the Gospels : Reading the Bible with Jewish Eyes: freeing Jesus from 2,000 Years of Misunderstanding” Author, John Shelby Spong.
“Into the Whirlwind : The Future of the Church” Author, John Shelby Spong.
“Jesus : Uncovering the Life, Teachiings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary” by Borg, Marcus J.
“Jesus, A New Vision : Spirit, Culture, and the Life of Discipleship” by Borg, Marcus J.,
“The Last Week” by Borg, Marcus J.,
“Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time : The Historical Jesus & the Heart of Contemporary Faith” by Borg, Marcus J.
“Reading the Bible Again for the First Time : Taking the Bible Seriously but Not Literally” by Borg, Marcus J.

    Well spotted UP.

That will do it every time – the theology of Spong and Borg leads inevitably to shrinking, dying churches.

It appears ASA dipped in 2001,2004,2007, and 2010 – the years following General Conventions. Any connection?
