“To tamper with the gospel is to trouble the Church….Indeed, the Church’s greatest troublemakers (now as then) are not those outside who oppose, ridicule and persecute it, but those inside who try to change the gospel…. Conversely, the only way to be a good churchman is to be a good gospel-man. The best way to serve the Church is to believe and to preach the gospel.”
–John R.W. Stott, Message of Galatians (Bible Speaks Today) [IVP, 1984]
Oh that sounds good to me.
He that has ears,…
Yay for John Stott!
When you get away from the Word, you get into the most frightful muddle, and if you are a bishop you can take others with you.
Good close study of the Gospel – what could be better?
The pastors of my present church have emphasized on several occasions that they are very careful in how they teach the Word of God, because Scripture states they will be held accountable for what they teach on Judgment Day.
I don’t think they tell students that at most mainline seminaries, however.
