I remember when my first child was born, I made this huge web site and put millions of pictures up there to share with all my whippet racing buddies from around the country. (This was before facebook and all the photo sharing sites were invented.) I spend a lot of time getting a photo to look just the way I want it to, because it’s all I’m going to have left eventually. So in all these photos my son looked absolutely charmed and charming. I remember somebody sent me an email that said “how do you get this kid to smile all the time? My son has been whining since he was born and he’s still doing it 31 years later.” Actually, my first son was a HUGE whiner, but I never took a photo of it! It’s bad enough to live through it once — why would you want to re-live it forever??
