1. Cennydd says:

I wouldn’t accept them as truly well qualified if they weren’t able to accept conservative viewpoints, and in that regard, that will most likely never happen. I’m glad our diocese has burned its bridges behind us.

2. usma87 says:

In the entire article, I notice we are now up to 3 million members. That is liberal math, rounding 2.2 up to 3.

3. William P. Sulik says:

#2, The Black Knight87 writes, in part,
[blockquote]That is liberal math, rounding 2.2 up to 3.[/blockquote]

As a political liberal, I resent that. I don’t think this is liberal math, rather it is pluriform math, where the traditional notions of physics, morality and reason don’t oppress those who seek to live according to the dictates of their navel (or whatever).

4. Susan Russell says:

Actually I think it’s “reporter math” … never underestimate the ability of the secular press to get the details wrong.

5. Nikolaus says:

I’m with #4, whole-heartedly. It continually freightens me to think how loose the Media is with details, knowing how much we rely on them for information.

6. C. Wingate says:

CAN WE CUT THE SNIDE COMMENTARY AND TALK ABOUT THE CANDIDATES?
Seriously, what do we know about them other than that Dio. Ca. liked Sutton?

7. TomRightmyer says:

All the candidates say they are married with children. Can it be that nominating committees are taking the B033 and House of Bishops pledge seriously?

8. Matthew says:

I know Peter Eaton. In a very real and odd way he got me back into the church with his infectious enthusiasm and warmth. I was living in Salt Lake City at the time and he was at St. Pauls. I always enjoyed being in his presence. He is, of course, reappraising but then again, when you live in Salt Lake, those would be your only options short of leaving ECUSA. He is a genuinely kind soul.

9. BCP28 says:

I have heard Canon Sutton preach, and he was very impressive.

Does anyone know if -any- of these candidates support, practice, or allow so-called open communion, or Communion without Baptism?

10. Rick D says:

I worshipped with Gene Sutton when he was an associate at St Columba’s, Washington DC, and he regularly led the service for families with preschoolers. He was energetic and inspirational and very able to connect with this particular community.

11. usma87 says:

Susan Russell – In my mind “reporter math” = liberal math. My bias that I will openly admit to. Other biases, not tellin’.

12. Gator says:

I believe John Hall is orthodox in his beliefs. But to run for bishop (and he is running) in TEC these days means, with some rare exceptions, that you are ready to go with the leadership of TEC. To want to go into the mix of Maryland after Bishop Ilhoff put his imprint on it for twelve years makes me wonder about the Rev. Hall’s overall commitments.

13. C. Wingate says:

The diocesan website has statements from the candidates and resumes here.

14. BCP28 says:

Gator..thanks, and for the record,

I’m from Maryland.
