Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, faces death threats

The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, is under police protection after he and his family received death threats over his claim that parts of Britain had become “no-go areas” for non-Muslims.

The Bishop is also facing anger from the most senior members of the Church of England hierarchy for his comments on Islam.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has made Islam a priority of his archiepiscopate and set up a Muslim-Christian forum to promote relations between the faiths in 2006. One senior cleric told The Times yesterday: “The Bishop of Rochester is in effect threatening to undo everything we have done.”

The cleric said that some congregations in cities such as Leicester, where interfaith work was a priority, were increasingly wary of donating money towards this work. Church leaders in towns with a large Muslim population were anxious that relations with their neighbours were being undermined.

The thing speaks for its self.

  2. David Fischler says:

So wherever the Bishop goes is now effectively a “no-go” zone for a single prominent non-Muslim. Way to dispel perceptions that Islam is a religion that fosters violence.

  3. Choir Stall says:

    Ah,
the peace-loving religion of Islam. But IS there any real likeness between Jesus and Muhammad? Jesus is as we know.

    Sorry elf,
For those most interested, read a thorough biography on Muhammad.

The spirit of Neville Chamberlain is alive and well….

“Agree that there’s nothing to be scared of or we’ll kill you!”

    Good one.

  7. Cousin Vinnie says:

Death threats have been known to undermine relationships, too.

  8. Nikolaus says:

Brutality is indigenous to Islam and needs to be confronted and laid bare. May Christ bless and further strengthen Bishop Nazir-Ali and I pray that Muslims will come to know the true Christ, not the caricature portrayed by their so-called “prophet.”

  9. Katherine says:

The bishop points out that there are places in Britain where non-Muslims are not safe, and the response is death threats. Point made. May God and the British police protect him.

Perhaps the saddest aspect of this story is not so much the Muslim reaction- but that by speaking the truth in love +Michael now finds the House of Bishop’s a ‘no go’ area.

It is all very well the fuzzy liberal voice bemoaning the fact that +Michael has undone their own work….but then what exactly have they done and where exactly do they give an honest assesment of the situation?

Furthermore which of them has the first hand knowledge of Islam that +Michael does?? It is all crazy- surely he should have chaired such a group in the first place…oh but of course he couldn’t because he is orthodox and would have breached the typical liberal game of ‘being really nice and not saying anything midly offensive to anyone’…regardelss of the basic facts

Nazir-Ali has only been saying what is well known in the UK & was the subject of a TV special a few weeks back, recounting the plight of thousands of Muslim converts to Christianity now living in fear or hiding: http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/dispatches/unholy+war/802852
    – check Youtube for excerpts. The program features an ‘underground’ Anglican church in an unnamed English (!) city, comprised mainly of ex-Muslims. After the 7/7 London bombings & a host of other incidents (Glasgow airport, the foiled Heathrow plot in 2006, extremist mosques in London & Birmingham etc), the UK govt is fairly witless about what to do.
Nazi-Ali himself can expect little help from the establishment of which he is a part because he’s an orthodox evangelical (in fact, a one-time protege of John Stott) at odds with RW’s shilly-shallying over Tec & other disasters. & to think he fled Pukeistan to escape death threats from Muslims …

One cannot help but compare this incident to that of a certain notorious “bishop” in North America, who pranced about in a designer flak jacket while uttering improbable reports that he had been targeted by conservatives for murder.

    Tedy,
The difference is that the death threats against +Nazir-Ali are real and have a better than average chance of being attempted.
