Preach the converting, saving Word at evensong, bro’!

2. Vincent Lerins says:

Thankfully, it’s an evensong and not a Eucharist. I can think of even better alternatives (edited).

3. azusa says:

Or Commination, a la BCP 1662.
Or the Anathemata of the Athanasian Creed.

4. Phil says:

You have my sympathy.

5. sophy0075 says:

Let us pray that the PB’s eyes and ears will be opened by the good work being done in the Diocese of SC and that she will recant her heretical positions.

Let us pray that if the foregoing does not occur, the Diocese of SC will continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit to do the good work that Christ Jesus has given them to do, and that the Holy Spirit will protect the Diocese in the doing of those good works.

6. Cennydd says:

On the other hand, what if her presence means that she’ll be keeping a close watch on them to make sure they toe the mark. Otherwise…………

7. robroy says:

So where is the differentiation? South Carolina versus Newark. Looks the same to me. How about “KJS we would like to extend an invitation to visit after you cease these vile and un-Christian lawsuits.

8. John Wilkins says:

It is generous and charitable for Bishop Lawrence to invite her to South Carolina. Good for him.

Of course, I’m waiting for the wolves to take him down.

9. Sarah1 says:

Rob Roy . . . oh . . . I think “Evensong” is a pretty clear differentiation. And one that nobody with any awareness at all fails to notice either. ; > )

10. Choir Stall says:

I would invite her to go into a forum where she has to deal with the truth. Forget celebrations with her whacky consecration robes. Put her among people that move her out of her comfort zone. Maybe she’ll “live into” the moment.

11. TreadingGrain says:

+Mark did not invite Ms. Schori into the Diocese of SC. This event came about several months ago.

12. libraryjim says:

I echo #s 1 & 10. Preach the Word boldly, perhaps a passage on “choose you this day whom you will serve!”

13. robroy says:

OK, I get it Sarah. To be honest, the latest dealings of KJS where she is attacking the the Daughters of the King (little old ladies at prayer) have so colored my view of the woman that it is hard to imagine my being in the same room with her.

#13 Robroy,
I will thank you to not sterotype the Daughters of the King. I am one and I am certainly not old! But, let me reassure you and many that old – middle age- or young….we Daughters pray hard and long daily for this Order, the Church, the clergy, and the world we live in here and abroad. God listens to those “little old ladies” who have been on their knees for many of their years & I pray I can live into their faithfulness of vowed dedication as they have for the rest of my days.
Now as far as Bp. Lawrence’s cozy visit with TEC’s PB, I with many DOK’s across the nation will be praying for the Lord to reign down and light a flame of Holy Spirit fire that will set her a blaze with a awakening that will shake her to her senses! God mayor may not answer that prayer. But, either way, we pray for it!
ODC

I was very glad that she came to Alabama and was willing to take our questions for 45 minutes. I got a good sense of her theology/world view which confirmed what I had previously sensed. There were still some questions that I had which did not get asked for lack of time. I would like to know what she thinks occurred on Easter Sunday; ie: does she think that Christ was bodily resurrected? Also, I would like to know what she believes of the Virgin birth. For me it is helpful to start by listening to her, then responding, rather than beginning with the response. If she does have a Q and A session, I would encourage y’all to go, but pray beforehand and after and read Scripture to stay focused on the Gospel. KJS is charming in public, and the half-truths that she speaks can be very seductive. Know also that y’all are in a very strong diocese and I know that your Bishop and clergy will keep you focused on the truth.

19. Carol R says:

ODC, I’m a DOK and I’m not old either! At least not yet! But I’m not mad at Robroy for his generalization. He meant well and I agree that the PB’s actions towards our order has shown me that her heart is far more hardened than I ever imagined.
FHS, Sister!

It’s not so much the reference of “old” so much as the image it infers. There are so many elderly ladies that have been the prayer warriors for years in constant prayer for their church, clergy and community as Daughters. Probably more than some of the younger ladies who get distracted by work, kids, spouse, soccer games, ballet lessons, etc…
The Order is a strong organization of dutiful and dedicated women of all ages who’s vision is on Christ and serving Him and living into their vows of prayer and service daily. We are not weak by any stretch of the imagination.
Thank you for your kind words

21. robroy says:

Mea culpa for my generalization. I went to a baptism service of one my employees last night. She goes to a non-denominational church. It was at a hotel with an indoor pool, full immersion and all that. I was struck that I was, apart from the parents of the baptismal candidate, the oldest person there (I am 45). Wow, many parents in their 20’s and 30’s with young kids. This is in contradistinction to our Episcopal church where my wife and I are definitely younger than almost all (by a long shot).

22. libraryjim says:

Robroy and others:
What did KJS say about the DOK? I missed that one. Please elaborate.

Thanks

23. Alta Californian says:

The PB is canonically required to visit every diocese within her term. So she’s coming sooner or later. Evensong is a very shrewd choice, as it does not give her any sacramental role.

24. libraryjim says:

Ah, I did a bit of Googling (well, I AM a reference Librarian, I should take my own advice once in a while) on “Presiding Bishop Daughters of the King” and found the answer to the DOK question.

For those not in the know, KJS is upset because there are DOK chapters in ‘Anglican parishes’ which split off from TEC dioceses in the U.S., as well as members who are RC, Lutheran, Methodist, etc., and she wants to purge it of all non-TEC members and chapters, making it an exclusive TEC organization.

25. Carol R says:

#24 That’s right. Although we are not a wing or product of TEC, we are a separate and free-standing order.

26. libraryjim says:

Alta,
Very true. And we know how KJS loves the canons of the church, and adheres to them to the letter, right? 😉
