In San Joaquin St. Paul’s members break away from current Anglican church

About 40 former members of Visalia’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church have decided to break away from the current Anglican church and reform their congregation as the Continuing Congregation of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Visalia, Calif.

The new congregation has been meeting in the cafeteria of Pinkham School. About 30 members attended services on Easter Sunday and about 40 last weekend.

The larger St. Paul’s Anglican Church remains with the San Joaquin Anglican Diocese.

It doesn’t say who their pastor, priest, or clergy leader will be????
Intersting! That’s a fairly large church so only 40 people is not that significant compared to their over all total of parishoners! I will keep them in prayer. Too bad they don’t feel comfortable in driving just 15 minutes to Tulare to join Fr. Rob Eaton’s Church.

The real question is – and it is a real question – what will these little “Remain Episcopal” splinter groups do when TEC loses their law suits against the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin, when 815 loses interest in propping these groups up for propaganda purposes, and when 815 decides to quietly merge the surviving TEC San Joaquin parishes into the neighboring dioceses. It is rather clear and obvious to me that these little groups will never be able to afford their own clergy, nor their own buildings, and the surrounding dioceses (except maybe LA??) simply do not have the financial ability to take on more money-draining congregations. I think a cruel joke is being played on these Remain Episcopal folks – they are having money shovelled at them right now and many promises made by 815, but you’ve got to know that they will be abandoned in 2-3 years time.

Strange, isn’t it, how such moves so often result in more splinter groups? Nothing surprising here.

Are Reasserter splinter groups OK, though?
