Many younger people have very nuanced ideas about Internet privacy. They post deeply personal information on social networking sites, but understand and use various privacy locks so only certain people can see their profiles.

I’m currently working with youth in my church and this is an accurate interview. Parents and adults who care should keep in touch with this ever-changing culture. Notice they discussed “facebook” much more than “myspace” (I didn’t count, this is my opinion) and I have noticed that my myspace page is almost inactive even with 200+ friends, but my facebook has comments almost daily.
Also, the comment a parent made about gossip and fights. In the old days these things blew over, but now the pictures and words are on the internet forever. This is a new factor in youth culture that can be devestating. Especially in a western culture that puts such a high value on the “printed” word.
