If a newspaper or magazine writes an article about the Episcopal church, it is fair game to write letters to the editor. The more letters, the more likely that one of them will be posted. Also, one is educating the editors even if you get rejected. Many of the newspapers have blogs associated with them. The powers that be also have to keep an eye on those so that inappropriate comments get deleted. Again a good chance to educate the journalists.

I have been writing a lot of letters to editors. Wouldn’t mind if others joined me.

Thank you, Sarah. I wrote a comment a week or two ago inquiring as to whether anyone had seen this story in any secular publication yet. No one responded. How about now? Has this found press yet?

How about just posting a picture. Something slightly unpastoral looking here:
Bishop Lamb and Bishop Schori. Is Bishop Lamb silencing the Church from dissent? From questioning? From critique of the One that passes before him? Is he pointing a finger at other bishops as if to say “you are next?” Follow the link. Copy and paste to your web address block for the full picture.

I’d be surprised if any newspapers are going to be interested in the canon mumbo jumbo of the Episcopal Church. I follow this stuff all the time and I still do not fully understand the details. It’s way too complicated.

I have to admit I have gone from amused to mildly irritated to flumoxed and now to fascinated. As you all know, I do not believe any canons were violated – however, I certainly see why people do. What I find myself fascinated by is the intensity of the protest. I understand the need for justice, but the sheer futility of railing against an injustice that will never be corrected seems staggering. On the one hand, I think it is every follower of Jesus’ duty to expose the Truth by shining light on the dark places. But on the other, I know that ++Katharine is driven solely by her agenda and will never listen to any counterargument.

Dan Tuton+, I contacted a lot of religion editors about the story. And I am pretty sure the answer to your question is no. It would be helpful if a group of bishops publicly condemned the votes and stood with Bp Lawrence, then wrote a public letter and forwarded it to the religion editors themselves.

Incredibly, that does not appear to be in the cards. So much for staying and differentiating by the vaunted Camp Allen bishops. It is hard for me not to hold them in disdain. I don’t say that lightly or proudly.
