It has divided parishioners and brought congregations to court. But a landslide vote in favour of allowing Anglican churches in the Huron Diocese, including churches in Brant and Norfolk counties, to bless same-sex unions has taken many by surprise.
Everett Lampman, 69, former warden and parishioner of St. John’s Anglican Church in Simcoe, said times are changing and sometimes religion has to change.
“Let the Lord have the ultimate decision,” he said. “At first I didn’t think it was right, but I did some reading about it and know some (gay) people and they are no different than you or me.”
Lampman said he was surprised to hear 70 per cent of the elected Anglican delegates and lay people voted in favour of blessing same-sex unions at the annual synod this week.
The decision still requires the approval of Bishop Bruce Howe, head of the Diocese of Huron.
It is regretful that you use the Brantford Expositor as your source. The article is so full of errors I can’t begin to list them but for starters, the 69-year-old warden doesn’t belong to St. John’s Simcoe as there is no church in Simcoe by that name. For more accurate coverage I’d try looking up the article written by A-Channel News.
“Let the Lord have the ultimate decision,” he said.
Ah, but He will.
And here’s the problem in a nutshell, that someone thinks that he has met homosexuals and that they are no different than he is. This is like saying that he has met a bipolar man and that the two are alike. The point is that he does not actually SEE the difference and therefore assumes that a difference does not exist. And yet, if he saw the same man scarcely dressed in a Gay-Lesbian parade, he would, one supposes, not reach the same conclusion.
Well, I see, as you probably have, that NY is going to recognize same sex marriages and Calif has set a June date of ssm to begin, so we may well suppose that the Schoris and Russels of the world are going to win both the battle and the war, and this depresses utterly.

AS I suppose you know, #4, you are missing my point. IN the last analysis, you are correct, but in the day to day business of this world, the remark is simply false, however common. Homosexuality, like manic depression, is a radical departure from the norm, and a simpleminded declaration of normality – just like me – doesn’t touch the truth. Larry
More evidence, I suspect, that delegates to synods and conventions are not particularly representative of the wider community, and that those on the left have been far more successful in gaming the system.
“but I did some reading about it and know some (gay) people and they are no different than you or me.”
Except they are unrepentent in habitual commission of mortal sin.
Honestly, given this view, what is this man’s view of sin? His remark is utterly beside the point.
[blockquote] they are no different than you or me [/blockquote] I wrote: [blockquote] Precisely. [/blockquote] I stand corrected by TridentineVirginian.
We are all sinners in desperate need of Grace, but some (gay) people are unrepentant in habitual commission of mortal sin.
In these cases, Repentance is needed even more desperately.
