    Film at 11.

I see they plan to save production money by getting freebies from the YouTube crowd. It will be interesting to see who they line up to advertise during the show this fall.

If they don’t have scientists from opposing view presenting the science on their side, then it is just another propaganda piece and will not be worth watching.

Gee, let me guess, the only thing these scientists need to solve the problem is more money – lots of it. Libraryjim’s comment is exactly right. Watch the first ten minutes of the program and if they don’t mention who will be on questioning the main proposition, don’t waste your time watching all of it.

I am not sure that 2100 will see human civilization as simply an improvement on what we have now. I suspect that (if the Lord tarries) there will be an entirely different set of circumstances, and those circumstances will not be a liberal, Western-style democracy all over the world.

And it is not “climate change” that will be at the root of such changes. Western society is dying philosophically, and the presuppositions and habits of heart and mind that are required for true freedom are being abandoned. The rising tide of Christianity in Asia and Africa may make a difference, but its influence will be different than the dying embers of Christian thought in the West.

Furthermore, apart from philosophical matters, we will be hard pressed simply to maintain the physical underpinnings of our civilization. I understand that some of New York City’s water system is still hollowed out logs. Simply maintaining bridges, roads, rail systems, and power networks will prove, I think, to be too large a job for an expanding (for the time being) modern style of life. All climate matters aside (and they are not negligible), our house of cards is simply being built too tall to last.

Wait… I thought our civilization was supposed to collapse at 12:01 am on 01/01/2000.

Somehow I think that the latest media hysteria will prove similar. Presenting the “worst case scenario that can be possibly imagined” may make for good ratings now, but it is a poor way to predict the future.

This is what passes for “news” at ABC these days. CBS, NBC, CNN, and FOX are little better. What is actually happening in the world is not nearly so interesting and entertaining, and thus profitable for TV, as what might happen.

I’ld rather have my palm read.
