As cars surged steadily down the road in Toledo, Ohio, a familiar melody rose from the circle of people gathered beside the gas pumps at the Exxon-Mobil station on the corner.
“He’s got the gas prices, in his hands. He’s got the gas prices, in his hands. . . ”
Heads bowed and hands clasped, Rocky Twyman and the congregants of his small worship session hoped to do what the country’s leaders haven’t: Put an end to the steep increase in national fuel prices.
“God is telling us to stop depending on ourselves so much and trust in him,” said Twyman, founder of Pray at the Pump. “Bush can’t solve this. McCain and Obama are not going to be able to solve this.”
I am ok with the point about depending on the right things, but I am also praying for a coherent, visionary, long term energy policy for this country–KSH.

But Kendall, we do have a comprehensive energy policy in place. That’s why things are so upside-down. The policy is to enact a series of tangential measures that have the cumulative effect of a de facto prohibition on energy-production that isn’t approved of by the environmental and anti-capitalist lobbies:
* No drilling in ANWR
* No drilling off the coast of California
* No drilling off the coast of Florida
* No extraction of oil from shale in the West
* No importation of oil from the sands in Canada
* Extremely limited construction of coal-fired electrical plants
* De-facto ban on nuclear generation facilities
There’s your energy policy, amigo. Trouble is, it’s not going to provide any energy. Your tax dollars, hard at work.
Hmm. Maybe it [i]is[/i] bad to have an anti-energy energy policy.
