In the U.K., Fear over children's 'immorality'

Adults distrust young people and are increasingly worried about children’s declining morality, a report has found.

In the poll of 1,176 UK adults, 66% said children’s morality today was “not as strong” as when they were young.

Seven out of 10 questioned for the Children’s Society survey – 69% – said children’s community values had fallen.

The Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Tim Stevens, said children were aware of these attitudes and wanted to be seen positively, not as “thugs”.

How does this story connect with the biggest current issue on T19? Well, how about a PM whose exit strategy from the AC is to appoint an ABofC more sympathetic to the idea of a progressive society than to promote a Scripturally based faith that promotes family values. Many in the world, including formal colonies, have looked to England for cultural leadership. I hope there will be enough quality young people around to lead Great Britain in the future.

Why is the secular UK worried about immorality? It’s what they have worked so hard to create.

Well, can’t say I am surprised. Its not as bad in the UK as it is in other parts of Europe, but secularism and moral relativism are certainly the 800-pound gorillas on the block that the Brits are having to deal with, and badly I might add.

I’m inclined to agree with Br. Michael.

Think back to all the posts on T19 and SF that refer to UK government actions regarding children ,or the traditional family. Every attempt to promote “traditional values/morality” has been vigorously quashed.

The greatest threats to the moral fibre of British youth are the government, and the parents who have abrogated their responsibilities to the politicians.

    On the news last week:

Our top stories this half-hour: flooding in the midwest, fires in California and seven other states, oil up again. When we come back, our top story: divorce rumors heavy about Madonna and her husband!

    I kid you not!

We are more fascinated about the latest sex-capades of celebrities than about real-world tragedies. No wonder people are worried about the immorality impacting our children.

As a frequent visitor to the UK because I have excellent friends there, I know that average Britons are exasperated with the government’s PC-ness attempting to tie their hands and with the loutish behavior of a segment of the youth.

My friends have been very dismayed by the schools’ attempt to circumvent the parents — health clinics at schools dispense contraceptives like sweets (eh, no, more than sweets nowadays because they are “health-conscious”) and have the power to whisk off a girl for an abortion without the parents’ approval or even knowledge. Many parents find themselves fighting for their parental rights.

That said, those who DO fight the system rear the most lovely small humans I’ve ever met. My friends’ granddaughter at 8 years old is everything you’d hope a beautiful 8-year-old to be. No tart-inspired clothing, no Bratz dolls, no whining or disrespect allowed. Her mum and grandparents read to her constantly, have taught her to sew, and encourage good manners, healthy interests, and compassion. She and her little friends are the type of children whose company is a blessing and pleasure.

I’ve met many children like this in Britain and, frankly, they put ours to shame with their manners and love for books. I’ve met the other sort, too, who, when you talk with them, could be diamonds in the rough. Their leaders have failed them but it’s not too late.

Scripture says “..teach a child the correct way to walk in and when they become adults they will not depart from it..” Unfornately when children are given examples of incorrect ways to follow they follow those also. Nuff Said!!!!
