Question: We’re hearing that the Lambeth Conference ended up over 2 million pounds in debt. Has the American church been asked to help foot that bill? And if so, will we?
KJS: My understanding is that the conference is a million pounds in debt. Or two million dollars…uh…or short fall. Yes we’ve been asked and the bishops of this church responded in ways that would provide bursaries for those unable to attend as scholarship assistance. I believe there..that the Archbishop of Canterbury has expressed a desire to come to the United States and uh…do some fund raising work and we have certainly offered our assistance in that…when he would like to do that.

You mean the Check isn’t in the mail; oh right, all the cash is tied up fighting legal battles over property. Only Beers is making out like a bandit, apt turn of a phrase.
And that was without participation by a majority of the African provinces? WOW!
I say, send ’em Spam and sweets like our grandparents did during WWII. The former colonies certainly don’t owe Britain (or the Church of England) any more than that!
So, the Church of England is incapable of financing the Communion without TEC. So, the ABC chastises TEC publicly and privately asks TEC to help. The TEC says, “sure, but you’ll have to work for it, just so you remember how much you need us.” And all those lofty Lambeth principles get forgotten in the fundraising tour. Arghh! This whole mess is so frustrating.
Fund-raising? Imagine the pressure poor Rowan will receive over drinks in the homes of revisionists who put him up for the night.

I have said it before, but will say it again, if the conservatives let the liberals pay the bills then they cannot complain if the liberals call the shots.
GAFCON should rapidly organise a paypal link for them so we can all donate and let GAFCON provide the shortfall — of course with no more strings attached than the TEC would have had.
Exactly, Margaret G, exactly – it would stupid to miss such an opportunity.
It’s a good thing that The Episcopal Organisation did not buy any chicken dinners for foreign bishops. Somebody might have accused them of bribery.

(Who knew the Sundanese are abstemious?)
Methinks something is rotten in Lambeth – er – Denmark ( Pardon the sip of the tongue!!)
