Immediately after finishing off the game of his life, Carlos Zambrano got down on one knee and thrust his arms toward the sky.
The emotional right-hander threw the Cubs’ first no-hitter in 36 years Sunday night, a 5-0 win over Houston at Miller Park in which he returned from an 11-day layoff in his own inimitable style.
“I guess I’m back,” Zambrano said with a wide smile.
Big Z is back, all right, and better than ever.
Not only did I miss the game, I didn’t even hear about this until a friend called me this afternoon. %$%^%$##@@!@@###. Anyway, makes the heart of any Cub fan glad.
And a one hitter this afternoon. Last night’s game was glorious. I actually felt a little bad for the Astros–“neutral field” indeed.
I actually have both Zambrano and Lilly on my fantasy baseball team. Good week for me!
Go Cubbies!
Didn’t go over well here in the home of the the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that’s won ten world titles since the Cubs won their last one. Ever since he threw at Jim Edmonds twice in the same game a couple of years ago, we hate Zambrano around here.
i’m a milwaukee resident.
a brewers fan, though they’re currently stinking up the joint.
i thought this was a blatently unfair move by Selig – home game for the astros at wrigley north? not so much.
BUT – bravo on the no-hitter- a mighty feat no matter the circumstances.
