The Senate Version of the Rescue package which May be Voted on this Evening

Check it out if you are so inclined. Is there some symbolism in the fact that what was originally three pages became 110 pages in the House version and has now become 451 pages? Just asking–KSH.

The longer it gets, the less I like it.

God knows what they are adding that has nothing to do with the economy and would never pass if introduced separately. This should be derailed until we know what is in it.

  3. Widening Gyre says:

Well, looks like the rescue portion is only about 120ish pages. The rest appears completely unrelated and (I hope) pertains to bills that were already to be voted on.

  4. Widening Gyre says:

You also have to like the new jargon. We’ll fix the whole thing by using a big TARP–Troubled Asset Relief Program. Some might say we’re using the TARP to cover it all up.

Then, the folks in charge of making sure Hank doesn’t pull a fast on us are called the Financials SOBs–Financial Stability Oversight Board. Hmm, maybe we need to rethink the acronymns…

  5. Little Cabbage says:

Mmmm….the banks/financial institutions be allowed to book their toxic assets at whatever price they please, rather than the current market value?!? In other words, the fat cats will lie, take their bonuses, and still profit from their lies?!? Oh — and the GOP wants the tax breaks for the top 5% to be extended, too! Whoa!! This is NOT the way to build trust with those of us on Main Street!

I just heard a Senator say that is exactly the case. Someone asked about “Christmas Tree” stuff, he said, they added the contents of a bill that the Senate had passed already twice, 93-2, but could never get a vote in Congress.

Still, wondering on my part tho.

Sometimes the charts just say it all. Take a look. Eye popping.

I am going to go home and hug my kid. My government just sold her into slavery.

I hate the Senate plan. I do think something needs to be done.

    This would be preferable.

The symbolism of “451” is historical, referring to the following things that happened in 451 A.D,

April 7 — The Huns sack Metz.

June 20 — Battle of Chalons: The Huns and the Ostrogoths, facing the Romans and the Visigoths, achieve at best a draw. After the battle, between 10,000 and 20,000 men lie dead on the Catalaunian Fields.

Battle of Vartanantz: The Armenian army is defeated by the Persians, and their rebel leader, Saint Vartan, dies. Despite the loss, Armenians consider this battle to have been a moral and religious victory, since the Persian king, out of respect for their efforts, allows them to remain Christian. The anniversary is a national and religious holiday.

Sassanid ruler Yazdegerd II’s decree abolishes the Sabbath, and orders executions of Jewish leaders, including the Exilarch Mar Nuna.

October 8 — Council of Chalcedon, Ecumenical council of the Christian church. As a result of this council the Oriental Orthodox churches became a separate communion.

    Jerusalem becomes a Patriarchate.

Dioscorus of Alexandria is deposed as Patriarch of Antioch.
