Kathleen Parker: The Mainstream media look for love

Love her or hate her, Palin has done for media ratings what she did for the Republican base. Her debate with Joe Biden was the most-watched cable TV show for viewers ages 18 to 34, according to Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S.

Obama has had a similar effect.

Jim VandeHei, executive editor of Politico, reported that traffic on politico.com is “exponentially higher” for Palin- and Obama-related stories.

Thanks for posting this, Kendall. The “old media” and their readers and listeners do not understand why their reputation and audience are shrinking. From the column: “Contempt for one’s audience is not a sure way to its heart.”

The New York Times, for instance, may never be able to repair its reputation, if it survives. It began the general election season by publishing, on the front page, an old unsubstantiated personal rumor about McCain, and it is finishing the season with a front-page personal attack on his wife, based largely on questionable sources, and admits that it solicited information from friends of the McCains’ youngest daughter on Facebook. The facade of an unbiased professional corps of journalists is shattered.

Not to mention the unreasoning hate-filled diatribes against Sarah Palin. Maranda Devine (real name?) has an interesting article here on how the ‘feminist’ movement has betrayed it’s roots in their treatment of Gov. Palin.
