Weak try at spin. Yes, it’s a bailout to keep them from failing — and the majority of Americans recognize that.

Furthermore, by the look of things — they’ll just fail later, since they’re not dealing with the legacy costs — ie, the unions.

Dumping the union’s sweetheart contracts…..including outrageous retirement benefits……and significantly lowering manufacturing costs would go a long way to revitalizing the auto industry.

Keeping the government out and letting the market work is always the best prescription.

The unions have their man heading to the White House, so I don’t look for them to be weakened significantly.

The Chrysler that my family owned during my time in high school had more problems per year than our other three cars put together. We probably weren’t the only Americans who decided, based on the ownership experience, never to buy a Chrysler product again.

One of the major problems with the Big Three is the fact that for so many years, they have been building duplicate vehicles. It makes no sense at all for Ford to market Mercuries when they have duplicate Fords in their lineup, and it is equally nonsensical for Chevrolet to build pickup trucks when the GMC division builds the same trucks with a different nameplate! Ditto for Daimler/Chrysler’s cars and minivans. It’s time for downsizing and the closing down of some divisions. And that’s just for starters.
