Vice President-Elect Joe Biden said the U.S. economy is in danger of “absolutely tanking” and will need a second stimulus package in the $600-billion to $700-billion range.
“The economy is in much worse shape than we thought it was in,” Biden told me during an exclusive interview — his first since becoming vice president-elect– to air this Sunday on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
“There is no short run other than keeping the economy from absolutely tanking. That’s the only short run,” Biden told me.
Gird your loins!
All we can hope is that Biden knows as much about the economy as he knows about foreign policy.
Hmmph, I thought the economy was already in the tank!
Obviously since we are in such danger we must give our leaders unquestioning power.

That worked badly insofar as we tried it (or had it tried on us) under Bush and Cheney. Nor is it a good idea going forward, ever.
Okay, funny story time – the beloved senior member of our parish, a 94 year old widow, was with her son in a burger joint for lunch recently. She watched the myriad of folks rumming back and forth with trays full of food, generally having a good time.
“You know,” she quipped, “I wish OUR depression had been like this.”
Food for thought…
So, Irenaeus – are we to believe the weary axiom that “Bush lied, people died” ?
