Obama Says Economic Stimulus Plan Worked as Intended

President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” as he pushed back against Republican criticism that his recovery program has failed to rescue the economy.

“It has already extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have lost their jobs in this recession,” Obama, who is traveling today in Ghana, said in his weekly Saturday radio and Web address. “It has delivered $43 billion in tax relief to American working families and business.”

  1. Crabby in MD says:

But whose job has been “saved/created”? I thought that was what the stimulus package was for.

  2. Bart Hall (Kansas, USA) says:

Given that far less than 10% has actually been spent, I find such claims preposterous. This never was about “stimulus” — it was about shovelling massive amounts of government moneys to groups like ACORN just ahead of the 2010 and 2012 elections. Look at the beneficiaries and the spending schedule if you doubt me.

Such approach is cynical in the extreme.

  3. HowieG says:

The stimulus package has indeed worked as intended: to destroy the healthy aspects of the economy to bring them in line with the the failed or collapsed segments of the economy caused by Governmental interference. Governmental control of the economy is part of the big O’s and friends plan to create the Communistic/socialistic party system for the USA.

    I know I feel stimulated.

  5. Jeffersonian says:

The administration menaced us with unemployment figures of 8.7% if the porkulus bill wasn’t passed (with 7.9% promised if it did). Now that we have the porkulus in place, unemployment is at 9.5%. Wouldn’t any fair reading of these numbers point to the conclusion that the porkulus has actually made things worse?

  6. Sick & Tired of Nuance says:

Since no one read it, how do they know? The only people able to make the call on if it is working would be the lobbyists that wrote the bill.

Cap and Trade seems to be heading in the same direction.
