Kendall, I remember how joyous and generous in spirit Dr Boyer was when we had him for a weekend parish retreat several years ago. And what a marvel of a musician!
One of my own joys that weekend was giving him a deeper introduction to shape-note singing. He was deeply appreciative of those of us in the parish who taught him a little bit more about this other uniquely American tradition of spiritual songs and hymns by having him sit through a singing session, complete with the traditional square seating arrangement of the singers and copies of Sacred Harp hymnals.
May he, and all the faithful departed, rest in peace as they await the resurrection at the Last Day.+
