Blair Says Religion Should Fuel Peace, not Conflict

Former British prime minister Tony Blair said Wednesday (Oct. 7) that Muslims and Christians working to understand each other’s cultural and religious beliefs could help build a global movement for peace.

“In religion, we are told to love your God, love your neighbors as yourself,” Blair said at a Georgetown University panel on the future of Muslim-Christian relations, adding that too often people view their neighbors as only those with similar beliefs.

Blair said both Christians and Muslims had been outsiders at one point in their histories, and that each had wrestled with how their own beliefs defied convention at one time.

“If we can get on, the 21st century world can get on,” he said. “It’s true we are different, but so were our founders.”

I don’t get the idea that Tony Blair realizes that he is addressing this problem from a western perspective derived in large part from Christian presuppositions. He is saying “If only Islam and (the dessicated corpse laughingly referred to as European) Christianity would both look at the problem like good secularized European Christians, then we could get along.” No doubt. But countries where Islam is a majority look lots different then countries where Islam is a minority, and that is no accident. Islamic culture is not compatible with the West. No amount of exhortation will change that fundamental fact.

I agree with carl #1. Islamic culture has to change to be compatible with the modern West, or even with the Christian West (where it still exists).

Like it or not, but Christianity is incapable with Islam, it is the Christian Liberals that seem to think that they can be happy clappy with Muslims and saying “why can’t we all get along” while the Muslims say we can only if you bow down and worship our god Allah.

Blair is shaping up to get himself appointed ‘President of Europe’ by the political nomenklatura. His sophomoric thoughts on religion are part of this plan. With his free time now, he should do some serious study of Catholicism, ‘cos he doesn’t know it!
