The people of the Diocese of Los Angeles have elected two extraordinarily gifted priests to serve them as Suffragan Bishops. They have chosen the two people who, in their minds, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, are best suited for this ministry, and one of them happens to be a lesbian. But let us be clear: it is Mary Glasspool’s experience, skills and faith which will make her a good bishop, and are the reason for her election. Rightly so, the people of Los Angeles have not let current arguments over homosexuality or threats to “unity” impair their choosing the best persons for these ministries.
This is the inclusive Church we declared at this summer’s General Convention we would be, following God’s call to us as best we can discern it, and we are now living into that calling. I am delighted over the elections of Diane Bruce and Mary Glasspool and, upon consent by the wider church, look forward to welcoming them both into the House of Bishops.
Apropos. “Unity” in scare quotes is diametrically opposed to the “inclusive church.”

Yep. He stated a fact. But Episcopalians aren’t particularly good at facing facts, are we.
This is the church that Episcopalians live in as long as they remain in TEC. Either that’s ok, and you live with it OR……
Or what? Complacency = compliance.
Just holding a few meetings and writing some nice theological reflections makes no real difference to any of the people doing these things. At all.
You said it, LumenChristie. One who is pretending that he is part of a faithful minority in TEC at this point is doing nothing but funding the sin-blessing factory. Dear Leader praises your efforts!
As we say at work: “Silence is consent.” My experience says that polite silence will be order of the day, and the ostriches will return to their usual posture.

Why is it that so many of our trusted leaders feel the need to say “But let us/me be clear…”? Rather like “But truthfully…”

So now TEC is both heretical and schismatic. I guess TEC is now using the Timothy Geithner method of candidate selection.
For some reason, I sincerely doubt that either of them are particularly ‘gifted’, neither as priests, nor soi-disant bishops.
“This is an inclusive Church” writes the Bishop of New Hampshire. Note the capital “C”. Across the board from “Mutual Ministry” affirmations about the shape of ministry, mutual recognition of ecclesial entities which do not claim to be in the historic ministerial succession, devaluation of the apostolic role of the House of Bishops, the co-equality of the presiding officers of General Convention, the omni-competency of General Convention, and the new title of our church with its pretentions to universal jurisdiction as a “denomination”, the deposition of bishops moving to another Anglican Province and the sort of language used above by Bishop Robinson combine to delineate a journey from Reformed Catholicism in the Anglican Tradition to some form of discreet religion, “made in America”!
The Inclusive Church (TM)… can’t seem to find that listed in my phone book. Is that a Christian denomination?
