Later he became an Episcopalian, got a job on the staff of the Episcopal Diocese, and, with the instruments of authority in the hands of fellow Lefties, the secessionist poacher had turned curialist gamekeeper.

Diogenes certainly knows how to turn a phrase.

Interesting bit of history, and what seems an interesting insight into the progressive mindset, which could perhaps best be described as instrumentalism for the sake of ideological achievement.

If nothing else, that could also serve as a warning to Anglican theological conservatives: ecclesiology is most emphatically not the handmaiden to doctrinal (and practical) purity. Let us be careful not to compromise catholic ecclesiology for the sake of preserving faithful Gospel proclamation and faithful Gospel living.

Diogenes referenced “leftists” in his op-ed analysis. Many people have been conditioned to respond to such references with scepticism. A scepticism born of the clever de-sensitization of the American public by leftist apologists following what is now called the “McCarthy Era” of the 1950s.

But, these leftists do exist within our institutions. They generally are not overt in a fashion that would permit them to be identified as leftist. They generally ‘slide’ into positions of power or of influence and slowly and persistently adjust institutional agendas to achieve leftist goals. Sometimes the adjustments are are so slow that you need to look back with a perspective of ten to thirty years to discover what they so insidiously achieved.

Its only when, as orthodox/traditional Anglicans look back in time that they actually realize what has been done to ECUSA. Generally it takes some sort of ‘shock’ to force that backward look into time. For ECUSA rthis shock came with the election, General Covention approval and ordination of Gene Robinson.

Just last week another ‘shock’ has been experienced by those have served in our country’s Armed Forces.

On 7 September, the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC was defaced by desecrators who sprayed some sort of oil on the lower part of the wall. The oil has made it difficult for visitors to read the names of the honored fallen servicemen.

How does this connect with leftists? Well, back in March of this year, such a desecration was reported to have been threatened by
radical leftists associated with the ANSWER coalition and the SDS.

Liberal Catholic Michael Winters wrote this scathing and damning review of “Catholics in Crisis.”

Number 1, I loved this part too: “Later he became an Episcopalian, got a job on the staff of the Episcopal Diocese, and, with the instruments of authority in the hands of fellow Lefties, the secessionist poacher had turned curialist gamekeeper.” Oh what a tangled web we weave!

When a reviewer in the magazine, AMERICA, refers to Naughton’s attacks on the Catholic Church as “foolishness without an excuse” then you know that Naughton managed to pull off a miracle. To get AMERICA to criticize a liberal attack on the Catholic Church as “foolishness without an excuse” is like having it snow in D.C. in July. I am not surprised that Mr. Naughton became an Episcopalian..

Clearly, a different sauces are appropriate for goose and gander to bring out their subtly, but distinctly singular flavors. Or where you sit is where you stand. Or which direction is that wind blowing? Or, “Don’t give me what I asked for! Give me what I want!”

Where, oh where, is the estimable Mr. Naughton’s voice to clarify and put to rest these scurrilous pronouncement? All the world wants to know.

Where is Brian from T19’s quotation when it reallys serves”?
I happen to have found a copy: “Faith as certainty is a fascist’s attitude. – Jason Boyett”
    Apropos, don’t you think?

  9. The_Elves says:

This makes TWO threads this morning where the topic is becoming Brian’s signature statement. IGNORE IT folks. You know the saying: “Don’t feed the trolls!”

PLEASE stick to the topic of the thread.

    Dear Elves,
If you feel the need to delete by all means do so. However, editing comments to say something different than what the commenter said is inappropiate.

Well this certainly blew over quickly. Less than four days and …. nothing. I guess this proves that when you are a reappraiser there is no standard of logic or consistency you should be held to. Positions are expected to change due to the demands of simple expediency. Naughton is home free on this one.
