Fr. Dan Martins has the clergy vote and is within two votes of gaining laity approval (2nd ballot). If elected his consent process will test TEC’s promise of inclusiveness.
What we have here is an ill-fated attempt at splitting the reasserting vote between two and throwing the election to the revisionist. They got it wrong in that Stevenson didn’t capture enough votes, and what he has a quickly going to Fr. Martins while the liberal block holds. Let this be a lesson to those trying to hold on to dioceses.
It’s official: Fr Dan is the bishop-elect of Springfield. Congratulations! May the Lord bless Dan’s episcopacy, for the building up and courageous witness of the Church on earth.
Congratulations to Dan. Now we can also see how this plays out against the new TEC mentality. Before it was ‘x will take the diocese out of TEC.’ So what will it be now? Will the ‘justice’ card be played all the way down?
This is a great day for our church. Dan loves the Lord, loves people, and has a large heart and a splendid mind. I am glad to be his friend. He will need our prayers and support as he prepares for this wider ministry.
They aren’t, you know.

Indeed with prayers and blessings for Dan, and for Brenda. And with celebration!

Congratulations to Father Dan! I have always enjoyed his blog; this is the best news out of TEC in years. The consent process will be fun.
Congratulations to him. And prayers for God’s grace in what will be a tough road ahead.
