Significant Developments in Terror Threats Since 9/11, Officials Say

The nation’s top counterterrorism officials were blunt. The threat from within—of Americans willing to commit terrorist acts— is growing. FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III told a congressional hearing today that a spike in recent terrorism cases is direct evidence of the evolving threat.

“Groups affiliated with al Qaeda are now actively targeting the United States and looking to use Americans or Westerners who are able to remain undetected by heightened security measures,” Mueller said. “It appears domestic extremism and radicalization appears to have become more pronounced based on the number of disruptions and incidents.”

Mueller appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs committee along with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and National Counterterrorism Chief Michael Leiter.

The religion of peace surely not! I can hear the world wide condemnation of this:

[blockquote]”A well-known Australian Muslim cleric has called for the beheading of Dutch anti-Islamic politician Geert Wilders. …

“The Sydney-born (Feiz) Muhammad has gained notoriety for, among other things, calling on young children to be radicalized and blaming rape victims for their own attacks.

“(De Telegraaf, the Netherlands’ largest newspaper) posted an English-language audio clip in which he refers to Wilders as ‘this Satan, this devil, this politician in Holland’ and explains that anyone who talks about Islam like Wilders does should be executed by beheading. …

“Wilders is currently on trial in the Netherlands for inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims.[/blockquote]

Do not be deceived. Reports like this will be used to take away our freedoms and justify increased government control of and intrusion into our lives. It is only the ordinary citizens that will keep getting killed by terrorist acts. The politicians and bureaucrats will have their security details, armored vehicles, and the state’s police/military apparatus to keep them safe. Just wait till a terrorist is caught in the act by citizens and killed on the spot. The full weight of the government will come down on – – the citizens, not the terrorist organization. Imagine, that instead of crashing, flight 93 had been recaptured by the passengers and the hijackers had had their throats cut. I am confident the government would have prosecuted the passengers for murder. I mean, have you heard anything about the prosecution of Major Hassan. How many of our ordinary citizens could kill 12 persons and still be awaiting trial with nary a mention in the media of the status of said trial.

What concerns me more is our government’s actions about this. A case in point involves going through security at Tampa airport recently. Here I am in a RL polo shirt, khakis, cordovan loafers and a Brooks Brothers blazer with a globe and anchor in my lapel. I was, rather rudely I maight add, given a full body scan. I told the man running the scanner (not the rude guy who pulled me out of line)that I would be the one diving over the seats to subdue a terrorist and he rather sheepishly said “Yeah, I know.” So here’s the point. They aren’t looking for terrorists. Because they aren’t profiling there WILL be another attack. Truth be told, I believe they pulled me so they could tell the PC police they pulled a 60 year old white guy in a Brooks Brothers blazer. But it is a foolish waste of resources and ultimately puts us in danger.

#4, they’ve been doing that since 9/11. But the real concern now is that American citizens are aiding, abetting and even carrying out these terrorists attacks. Though I am opposed to the death penalty, these kinds of things certainly would seem to involve treason, which generally carries that penalty. We, also, need to begin carefully reviewing to whom we provide citizenship. Most of us take citizenship for granted, but we need to realize what a privilege it is to have U.S. citizenship and how important it is in the rest of the world.

Profiling works, even when those legally within the nation are the miscreants – the Israelis have demonstrated that. The current mindset of our federal government, however, is far too pro-Islam to permit profiling. A 60year old Caucasian male in a RL polo, khakis, J&M loafers and a BB blazer as a terrorist? No way would the Israelis finger you, David.

#6–My guess is if I ever flew on El Al the Irealis would alreday have a file on me, and they would know I’d be the one trying to kill the terrorists!
