Can someone explain something? In every country in the world, red = left wing, and blue = conservative. I can clearly remember the red donkey (democrat) and blue elephant (republican). How did that get changed? It happened in the years I was living abroad I think (1998-2008). Why?
Dr. Seitz, If I recall correctly, the maps in my high school history text book (’94-’95) used the old correlation. I think the switch may have started with the 2000 election (although i’m not certain). Perhaps the press didn’t want the the Democrats identified as ‘reds.’
