A committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth recommended Monday that the diocese leave the U.S. Episcopal Church and affiliate with another province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Because the proposal involves a constitutional change, it would first have to be approved at the diocese’s annual convention Nov. 16-17 and again in 2008, Bishop Jack Iker said.
“This is just a first step,” Iker said.
This, my friends, is an historic event!
It is the first time ever in my entire 15 years in Fort Worth that the Star-Telegram has printed an article about me or the Diocese without one mention of the ordination of women to the priesthood!

Hooray! Can it be that someone at the “Startlegram” actually gets it? (Naw, wishful thinking!)
Prayers and blessings on ye, Bishop Iker. You are respected and appreciated by many outside of your diocese. I look forward to attending a couple events at St. Vincents in the near future. 🙂
I’m shocked! Shocked I say!

May God bless you, Bishop. You give encouragement and hope to people like me and my wife, who left ECUSA in 2003.
I have never met you, or spoken with you, Bishop Iker, but I admire your fortitude and prudence in taking this bold initiative.
Bishop Iker, I’m sorry to hear that your diocese has taken this step. I work in Fort Worth, but I have to tell you that your stewardship of your diocese has been one reason I have not moved west from Dallas, either to live or to worship.
Bishop Iker, I for one (a member of St. Alban’s, Arlington) am feeling refreshed that the diocese has begun this process. Even though my husband and I live in North Dallas we happily make the hour long trip every week to visit what we consider home. Or at least we will until I’m too pregnant to make that trip :D. May God bless you.
