The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has criticised politically correct officials who remove carols and Nativity plays from Christmas celebrations.
Dr Williams said people of other faiths loved the story of Jesus’s birth and were not offended by public celebrations of Christmas because they respected its message.
Even non-believers should stop and think about the Nativity as a story of “defenceless love” that crosses cultural and religious boundaries, he said.
I thought using the Lord’s name in vain was a sin. Why would we want our sinful politicians to act as some quasi priest on our behalf. Churches, don’t bemoan the absence of religion in society, fill the vacuum!
Describing and reporting history is NOT “taking the Lord’s name in vain.” Moreover, in the United States, CHRISTMAS is a FEDERAL holiday, legal for ALL to celebrate. So let’s be real and enjoy the season. As a believer I can rejoice that Jesus’ name is often mentioned; additionally, I can explain the full significance–the REAL reason for the season–to those around me.
HAPPY and BLESSED ADVENT!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Ironic, coming from a man whose Advent message failed to mention Jesus or Christ.
If putting the ANGst in Anglicanism is a valid qualification for commenting on Christ in Christmas, perhaps he has grounds for his statement. You decide.

Does anyone else?
