Church Yearbook registers large declines in memberships of some faiths

Three church organizations from widely different parts of the religious landscape reached the same conclusion ”” that they aren’t nearly as large as they had said previously.

In fact, each of them reduced their estimated number of adherents by about 1 million….

    TEC is reporting membership of 2 million, down by 2.5%? Come on folks, let’s be a little more honest!

    I applaud these churches that are prepared to revise the way in which they count their members, even if that may mean their apparent numbers of adherents falling.

    There are probably a dozen different ways to count a church’s numbers, and none of them are necessarily invalid. Its a matter of what the church really wants to measure.

    It sounds like these Baptists and Orthodox churches want to change to a system more focussed on active members, and less on nominal (or even completely inactive) members.
