A Prayer for the Feast day of Saint David of Wales

Almighty God, who didst call thy servant David to be a faithful and wise steward of thy mysteries for the people of Wales: Mercifully grant that, following his purity of life and zeal for the gospel of Christ, we may with him receive the crown of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever.

A little St. David trivia–in 1900 the US Marines held the Forbidden City in Peking against the Boxer Rebellion. They were accompanied by the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the password they used was a traditional Welch greeting “And St. David”. Every year since 1901, on March 1st, the Commandant of the US Marine Corps sends a telegram to the Commandant of the Royal Marines which says “And St. David.”

It is “Ac Dewi Sant” in Welsh.

thanks for the prayer; it’s a non existent holiday here in texas, but i saw on a website that there are many celebrations round the country and welsh societies abound.
