Do any of our members know Chuck Treadwell of Waco, Texas? He received 37 clergy and 101 lay votes. Where did they come from?

Looks like it came down to a race between the two Sewanee Grads (Yea, Sewanee’s Right!!). Alabama is not going to elect some Yankee(GRIN). But seriously, The one lady nominee actually listed VG Robinson as a reference!!! For Alabama???? Trust me, I knew several of the Bishops of Alabama (Primarily the Rt. Reverend Furman Stough) and anybody who would list VGR as a reference, (to excuse the pun) DOES NOT HAVE A PRAYER!!! (Note: Marc Andrus went crazy after leaving Alabama!!)

I know Chuck. He’s a terrific rector and would be a terrific bishop.

First off, congratulation to Bishop Sloan! Home-grown Bishops often have a unique perspective on the needs of their flock having served for a long period of time in their home diocese. I know he is well thought-of generally, but I’m ashamed to say I don’t know that much more about him than that. Am I correct in seeing this vote as a continuation of the “status quo”?

    Now for commentary and kibbitzing…

Looking at the balloting results, although lopsidedly in favor of Bishop Sloan, the 2nd runner up was Chuck Treadwell with 37 Clergy votes and 101 lay votes. He spent a good deal of time in a Communion Partner diocese before going to the more moderate (but heading left-ward) Diocese of Texas.

I guess the question is, “Was Chuck the choice of the conservative delegates from places like Advent and St. Lukes?” If so, that would indicate there is still a good-sized traditional base left in Alabama.

Does anyone close to the process have any clues, they could send?

I know a few people in the Diocese of Alabama, and I think there was a reason that Bishop Parsley actively forbade by Episcopal directive and clergy or priest from being involved with or becoming a member of groups like the American Anglican Council. I have relatives in Alabama, and I can tell you that Alabama is about as culturally conservative as you can get.
