Your Curmudgeon takes pride in his attention to details — and he does not like being misled. He is always happy to correct his mistakes, once they are pointed out to him, because no one should have a vested interest in spreading untruth. Thus when somebody feeds him wrong information, he cannot refrain from asking why they would have done so.
Consider the latest snafu over the “mistaken” listing of Ms. Josephine Hicks, the Church Attorney to the Disciplinary Board of Bishops, on the Official Roster of that Board as published on ECUSA’s Website. She was still shown as a “Member” (i.e., a participant with a vote) as late as October 12, and yet on the previous September 30, she authored a letter to the President of South Carolina’s Standing Committee, which she signed as “Church Attorney to the Board”.
Now the Rt. Rev. Dorsey Henderson, former (resigned) Bishop of Upper South Carolina, is a canon lawyer. He has served on the predecessor to the Disciplinary Board (the former “Title IV Review Committee”). As such, he participated in the proceedings against Bishops Schofield and Duncan for so-called “abandonment of communion”, which resulted in their faux “deposition” by a tiny minority of the full membership of the House of Bishops who are actually entitled to vote under ECUSA’s Constitution, notwithstanding what the vindictive Presiding Bishop or her financially very interested Chancellor chooses to opine. So he is no stranger to the canonical process, especially in so-called cases of “abandonment.”

I hate to sound like the Church Lady, but it’s not the PB, or her chancellors or attorneys I see at the bottom of this.
TEC has married the spirit of this age, and that IS Satan. Rather than revelling in showing the world Christ and Him crucified too many in TEC’s leadership roles think of ways to make Coffee Hour, Yoga, and cultural relations even more snazzy. Hence, we have lost nearly 20% of our ASA in 10 years. Then we have the Mark Harrises whose own diocese has to close their cathedral, suggesting that perhaps DSC should air their concerns at the next General Convention. No thanks. Another pie in the face isn’t tasty. Why should a diocese that is GROWING be invited to come aong those who are shooting themselves in the foot at every turn, just to be told to love it, bless it, and help pay for it. Yes, TEC has married the spirit of this age, and we are going to become a widow soon.
I’m happy that Mr. Haley continues to detail the sleazy dealings and rationalizations of TEO and its “leaders”, but after a while, it becomes obvious that they neither give a damn nor are they in the least concerned. Meanwhile, the rest of us can express our outrage, disappointment, surprise, and wring our hands. But the behavior doesn’t change and the campaign goes on. Meanwhile those bishops and priests in TEO who can and should raise their voices in protest remain silent while insisting that their silence really doesn’t mean consent.
Here is what it looks like, regardless of what it set out to be:
1. The Title IV stuff has come about to simply pick off the remaining traditional bishops in TEC;
2. And the powers-that-be have now mucked up the whole thing, even if it wasn’t very good to begin with.
So, if it looks more and more like an exercise in vindictive incompetence, how do they plan to unring the bell? I guess I’ll stay tuned.
