It’s Christmas, that joyous time of year when the Mainstream Media (MSM) goes in search of apostate scholars to re-assure them that the gospel is all a bunch of hooey.     Crossan is often interesting when he’s not being inflammatory. For what it’s worth, isn’t the census connected with the uprising of Judas the Galilean? I think I read that in Crossan (or heard it from him on some show). I believe, overall, that he correctly points to several highly charged political allusions in Luke’s narrative. And what follows is that the narrative has to do with who Jesus is, pretty much along the lines developed by Tom Wright in several of the posts over the last few days. Of course, unlike Wright, Crossan won’t go near the historic faith; but it’s sad that he so often devolves to the level of baiting the church for hire when he knows better. It’s just polarizing.
