  1. c.r.seitz says:

facetiousness — first cousin of incompetence.

  2. Ian Montgomery says:

True Chris BUT there is some sense in this proposal – the selling off part, and moving to a more modest locale, forget the niche stuff and the state takeover – if it could only be taken seriously. I am not holding my breath.

  3. sophy0075 says:

    Forget losing Hyfrydol, too!

  4. samh says:

It’s bad that I wasn’t 100% sure how serious he was all the way through, right?

  5. FrCarl says:

Although he does manage to state the rather obvious truth with respect to the House of Bishops specifically and General Convention generally: “Beware of mad men in high places.”
Or perhaps better put: “Beware of godless men in God’s place(s).”

  6. Cennydd13 says:

    3. Cymru am Byth!

  7. Laura R. says:

I wasn’t sure until the end — from the title of the article I thought he was suggesting a merger with the two dioceses.

  8. Undergroundpewster says:

His plan is as good as any that I have seen from 815. I think this will make him a front-runner for the next PB.

  9. David Keller says:

I thought it was rather amusing. #8–Does a cowboy hat mitre trump an oven mit mitre?

  10. Michael+ says:

What a ridiculous article. When a bishop’s writing is mistakable with an article from The Onion, there’s a problem.

  11. Ralinda says:

The snarkiness towards the Mormons is unecessary. I worry that he may have inadvertently nibbled on peyote out there in the desert.

  12. Ralph says:

“Beware of mad men in high places.”

Indeed. Either #11 is right, or he must be off his meds.

That being said, I also think it’s funny. But, I know that I have an odd sense of humor. The part about “Instead of a family history library we hire a crack team of psychics and futurists to staff our family future library. People will go to Salt Lake to learn about their ancestors, then on to Helena to learn about their descendants,” slays me. There are folks in TEC who believe in that stuff.

The western hat looks like it’s tastefully designed, and of high quality. That cannot be said about the PB’s oven mitt.

  13. In Texas says:

Of course we have to be snarky to Mormons, that’s part of the POTUS election strategy. 😉 Really, though, it sounds like some envy of the LDS success, so we have to make light of them.

  14. Terry Tee says:

Chris Seitz, is that logion your own? If it is, is it copyrighted? I would like to use it. A useful addition to the arsenal of one-liner put-downs.

  15. Jim the Puritan says:

At least he recognizes the Episcopal Church is now a cult.

  16. Christopher Johnson says:

I think ol’ Dan was just trying to be funny. And failing spectacularly.

  17. Archer_of_the_Forest says:

I have trouble taking people in cowboy hats seriously.

  18. dwstroudmd+ says:

One way to control something so as though they mattered again – having squandered the mattering elsewhere. And lets be clear about what type of enclave this is: an Episcopalian Enclave. The use of Anglican, when TEc has so clearly walked apart from most of the world’s Anglicans, is facetious in the extreme.

  19. MichaelA says:

“But the mega-churches lose people as fast as the bring them in and the Baptists have lost more people in recent years than our entire membership.”
There is a really sharp implication in this for those in TEC to contemplate:
    Q. Why have the pentecostals and baptists lost more people than our entire membership?
    A. Because they could…

  20. driver8 says:

#17 How dare you! Don’t sick this mob on Montana, though I understand there are some depopulating counties where rootless Episcopalians could probably help fixing fences and digging ditches. It might do them some good.

  21. LfxN says:

I notice he wrote his plan at 5 in the morning. I’m guessing he had been up all night…

  22. paradoxymoron says:

At least the Shakers left behind some chairs and round barns. Love to see what this colony would leave behind.
