A Reconvened Diocese of South Carolina Convention Today

After some discussion, we met in a reconvened convention today and suspended a previous rule by more than the required 2/3 majority in both orders, and a new electing Convention will likely convene in early August. Parishes will need to elect new delegates for the express purpose of sending them to this new electing Convention.

Sorry that your diocese will have to go through this laborious process; I pray that all things collaborate this time to ensure that all consents arrive in time, in good form, for your chosen bishop.

Kendall, Dow, Hayden, somebody in SC,
What are your diocesan canon specifics in regard to electing convention delegates? Only a convenend parish meeting? By vestry if necessary? Any restrictions on electing the same delegates as from the previous convention?
Otherwise, I suppose the easiest and most expedient method would be to have a nominating committee simply nominate the last conventions’s delegates as a slate (except for those individuals who cannot or who are “gone”), call the parish meeting for a Sunday morning and it’s all done.

We didn’t need new delegates because the convention “according to the minutes was recessed, not adjourned”. (check http://www.dioceseofsc.org) So it was the same convention with the same delegates. My understanding is that General Convention does this every time they meet (heard this from a delegate this morning). Anyway it’s all on the up and up. 815 was consulted. As my son says, “It’s all good.”.

#3 I think Rob Eaton was referring to how parishes and missions would elect new delgates to the coming August Convention. The only stipulation for this is that they must be newly elected now that the new electing convention has been called for. So parishes will have meetings between now and the August electing Convention, and they can (but do not need to) elect the same delegates as before. They key is they must have a new parish election.

Yes, of course, I’m sure that’s what he meant.
I should remember never to post after 6pm…the mind is mushy.

    : )
….what Kendall said in my defense.
It would have been better, however, on my part if I had begun my comment with “In regard to the August electing convention….”
So, my apologies for not being more better at communicatin’.
