Despite the clear lines being drawn between the Diocese of South Carolina and the national Episcopal Church, Hunter said that the diocese is still the same entity that it has been for 228 years.
“We need to be clear that this is not a new diocese,” [Joy Hunter]…said. “We continue to be the Diocese of South Carolina, also known as the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of South Carolina and the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. We were established in 1785 and have not become a new entity simply because we terminated our association with The Episcopal Church.”
Currently, 46 separate congregations remain in the Diocese of South Carolina, while a number of churches in the state are still in deliberation over which group they will remain with on a permanent basis.
Very nice! Very well written. The author gets her facts straight as she goes to the Diocese for the information. I hope everyone will find the FMU PAC a great space for the convention. Wonderful acoustics for the music and singing.
I’m confused already, press notices need yo state ‘Mark’s’ or ‘Charles” until this sorts itself out. Especially since we might move to the Low Country. Hmmm.
Dio of SC made a big contribution to the ASA perfect storm for TEC in2012. ASA should decline by 2 percent given that 2011 was a Christmas on Sunday year, another 2 percent for the “normal” decline in ASA per year, and a bit more that 10,000 decline for loss of Dio of SC. The total sholud be between 30 and 35 thouusand. That would be almost a 6 percent in one year. Statmann
There is only ONE Diocese of South Carolina! LOL! That other entity is a new diocese. The latest confusion- TEC-SC is planning on having their convention that same weekend (March 8-9) but at Grace Episcopal in Charleston. It seems they are keeping the confusion going. Not surprised.
