Justin Welby has begun the search for a new director of communications as he seeks to overcome the negative headlines that accompanied his first trip to the Middle East.
The Archbishop of Canterbury’s failure to visit Bethlehem or Nazareth last week prompted fury among Palestinians, overshadowing the entire journey. He is now to advertise for the post as part of a root-and-branch reordering of his team.

RE: “the negative headlines that accompanied his first trip to the Middle East.”
He went to the Middle East?
There were negative headlines? Where?
RE: “fury among Palestinians” . . .
You have to smile over those three words. The very essence of being “Palestinian” is “fury.” When are they not furious?
I’m no fan of Welby’s — I think he’s revealed a rather depressing lack of precision of thought and word over the past six months which has led to his shallow vacuity of theologies about “reconciliation” and “peacemaking,” among other things, with which we have all become so familiar. But boy — the idea that something he’s done has provoked “fury among Palestinians” is ridiculous. One might just as well turn around three times and provoke “fury among Palestinians.
I suppose if you feel no Great Commission, then all you have is public relations. Applause to the Pali’s for smoking out the vacuous agenda of this flim flam man.
